Rich K. HoltzinSince 1998, Rich has been a staff guide and instructor with the Grand Canyon Field Institute. His bio line reads:

Rich Holtzin, Ph.D., has taught earth science, guitar and music theory, and philosophy (East and West) for well over two decades. Having spent some thirty-seven years in the Rocky Mountain West and Southwest, Rich has hiked and explored thousands of miles throughout the Colorado Plateau, most of which includes backpacking in his 'other office,' the Grand Canyon. Among his many and varied interests, Rich is an avid world traveler, former commercial pilot, wilderness backpacking guide, and composer of the "Ballads of the Grand Canyon" soundtrack (circa 1986).

Rich has worn many hats throughout his life. His eclectic background runs the route from academician and musician to guide and tour operator. However, the dominant narrative throughout his life is that of an educator and a devotee of the outdoors and the environment. His passion for the Colorado Plateau's scenic icons has especially rewarded Rich with tangible experience and personal knowledge that benefits both clients and students over the years. Consequently, Rich and his highly qualified staff brings to eco and ethno-cultural tourism a practical knowledge people find interesting and useful.

In short, touring with Ecosouthwest is not just about the road mileage and inspirational places to see along the way.
Rather, it's an opportunity to learn something special about an equally special land and the people of culture who live here.
